STOME HOUSE

The private investor’s house is located in the settlement of Stomorska, on the island of Šolta. The settlement of Stomorska is one of the oldest settlements on the inhabited islands. Given the traditional architecture in the surroundings, the Gunther house also uses elements of traditional architecture in order to fit into the existing context as successfully as possible.

The house is formed into 3 parts: the entrance area, the living area as the heart of the house, and part of the porch and terrace.                                                                                                                                                                    The entrance area houses the garage, auxiliary bedrooms and an atrium. The atrium, as a traditional element of vernacular architecture, is represented by a courtyard, and through the same courtyard a direct connection is created with the wine cellar, a modern interpretation of a traditional tavern. The heart of the house is the space for the living room, kitchen, dining room (which has double height), and bedrooms on the first floor. The double height of the dining room provides additional value to the main area of the house. The terrace is partially covered and has the function of extending the interior to the exterior. In addition, it is used for relaxation by the pool. A traditional feature of houses in the area is the gable roof. The Gunther House uses this element, but in a modern interpretation in which it is the same color and material as the facade of the house. This part of the house rests on a stone base.
